A retirement to Kentucky should be an outdoors person's dream. Known as the Bluegrass State, its fertile soil grows pasture land ideal for raising livestock, particularly thoroughbred race horses. It is home to the world's longest cave system, has the greatest length of navigable waterways and streams in the lower forty-eight states and the two largest man made lakes east of the Mississippi. It contains the largest number of deer and turkey per capita, the largest free ranging herd of Elk east of Montana and the nations most productive coal field. The main draw of this state however, is the number of bourbon distilleries, bluegrass music and college basketball, all prerequisites for a happy retirement.
