Oregon enjoys a diverse landscape with the scenic and windswept Pacific coast, the volcanoes of a rugged and glaciated Cascade Mountain Range, dense evergreen forests and high deserts across much of the eastern part of the state. The towering Douglas Firs and Redwoods along the rainy western coast contrast sharply to the low density and fire prone pine and juniper trees of eastern Oregon. An analysis of the 2004 elections showed Oregon to have the most liberal voters in the nation and the most conservative voters in the nation making it the most polarized state in the union.
