Oregon enjoys a diverse landscape with the scenic and windswept Pacific coast, the volcanoes of a rugged and glaciated Cascade Mountain Range, dense evergreen forests and high deserts across much of the eastern part of the state. The towering Douglas Firs and Redwoods along the rainy western coast contrast sharply to the low density and fire prone pine and juniper trees of eastern Oregon. The state has been thought of as politically split by the Cascade Range with the western and most populous part being among the most liberal in the nation and the sparsely populated eastern two thirds being among the most conservative. An analysis of the 2004 elections showed Oregon to have the most liberal voters in the nation and the most conservative voters in the nation making it the most polarized state in the union. When b>retiring to Oregon your happiness will depend on matching your political persuasion to the region of the state to which you move.
