Retiring to Pennsylvania offers perhaps the most historic and diverse options in the country. It is known as the Keystone State due to its central location among the 13 colonies and the number of historical documents signed there. Economically it has both industry and agriculture. It has seaports on Lake Erie and the Atlantic through the Delaware Estuary. 9% of all wooded land area in the U.S. is in Pennsylvania. There are nearly one million licensed hunters in the state. Central Pennsylvania is noted for housing the "Pennsylvania Dutch" which are of German descent as opposed to Dutch. The Germans called themselves "Deutsch" which in English became, misleadingly, "Dutch". In addition to housing the 1st and 2nd Continental Congresses and hosting the Gettysburg Address it first established freedom of religion under William Penn, created the first paper money (by Ben Franklin), hosted the signing of the Declaration of Independence and opened the nations first bank and first zoo. The best thing it has done, however, is to be the "Snack Food Capital of the World". It introduced the first pretzel, the chocolate industry is based in Hershey and it provides the most potato chips of any state.
