Retirement to Tennessee provides a wide range of options across the length of the state. Eastern Tennessee is home to the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains and the quaint and unique town of Chattanooga where there really is a "Chattanooga Choo Choo". Moving westward takes you into the Tennessee Valley where numerous tributaries join to form the Tennessee River. This portion of the state consists of fertile valleys separated by wooded ridges. Middle Tennessee consists of the Cumberland Plateau, an area of flat topped mountains separated by sharp valleys. The country music mecca, Nashville is located in this region. Western Tennessee between the Tennessee River to the east and the Mississippi River to the west is made up of rolling hills which culminate in steep bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River near Memphis. Memphis is considered the birthplace of the Blues dating back to W.C. Handy in 1909. It was also the home of Sun Records which played an important part in the popularity of Rock and Roll. If you love the blues and rock and roll, retire to west Tennessee, if you're a country music fan, retire to middle Tennessee and if you like peace and quite and beauty, retire to eastern Tennessee.
