Maryland wraps itself around the Chesapeake Bay with a piedmont geography to the west of the bay and the eastern shore to the east. It is a major center for life sciences research and development with over 350 biotechnology companies located there. It also has the nations highest median household income having passed New Jersey in 2006. If you move to the western part of the state your neighbors are likely to be federal government employees and if you move to the eastern shore they are likely to be long neck clams. Personally, we enjoy the latter more than the former.
